I know I'm in the minority on this, but I kinda like Theismann.

I know he talks too much and has an opinion on everything, but he still has some good analysis and makes good points more times than not.

...........Theismann's replacement could be current ESPN analyst Ron Jaworski.

But this could be fun and what I will root for.........

Other names bandied about include Bill Parcells (who recently signed with ESPN) and Emmitt Smith, the league's all-time rushing leader. An official announcement could come Monday.

Not Emmit. Parcells could be can't miss TV. Especially if they cover a TO game.

The last MNF booth I liked was Gifford, Michaels, and Dierdorf.

The problem wasn't really Thiesman, it was the entire booth. Tirico is good but he is a bit "cold." Kornheiser is an idiot equalled only in his MNF sucktitude by Dennis Miller and Thiesman is just abrasive.

Jaworski has potential, but Cornholer needs to go.

Kornheiser brings the same thing that the cat who used to do the news for Saturday Night Live brought, which is nothing. I think the network tries to mainstream the game on Monday Night a bit too much. Football fans watch that show, not fans of the third man in the booth. Ratings go up and down each year based on match-ups more than anything. The fact that it's the only game going on Monday is novel enough, no need to bring in some dog and pony show.

Endberg is the best play by play NFL guy ever. Loved him doing Browns games in the 80's with his usual sidekick.

BTW play by play men are very underrated as a whole. I recorded a few games in the past and watched them with no play by play, it sucked.

I'm a long time fan of Edge (TM) NFL Matchup on ESPN and it is by far the best FB show on TV for a geek. Other than Hodge being a dumb fuck, it is all X's and O's in cohenert fashion and shows you from a film angle (not network feed angle) EXACTLY why what worked. Jaws is outstanding.

If they can shut Cornholer the fuck up, it'll be stellar. But they can't.

Look, I've always hated how the networks approach this thing. If you want a broad cast for the pure-ist, go with a great PBP man (uh, not Ian Eagle) and a guy like Jaws an dturn them loose on the geek stuff. If you want to make it a cheeseball fest, then have the balls to do what McMahon did and let 'er rip.

Make OJ and one of The Birls Next Door sideline reporters, and put Don King or Al Sharpton in the booth and bring back Rush to pair them up. Gorilla Monsoon does PBP.

Two words: freak show.

Yeah, that show was great when it wasn't unravelling (as it did every five minutes) into a Great Taste vs. Less Filling showdown between Jaws & FlatHead:

"It's the running game that sets up the offense!"

"No, it's the passing game that sets up the offense!"

That never got old.

Still liked it better than the rest of ESPN's football coverage, though, even though I didn't get to see it as much as I'd have liked (time slot was always awful--we might have been the only two watching). Helped me draw up a few plays in Madden & everything.

Since they are admittedly good friends, maybe Jaws' arrival will help Kornheiser. I hope so. Like Swerb said, Jaws is great breaking down tape. Hopefully, that knowlege will translate into his commentary.

As for me, I miss Frank, Dandy Don and Howard. That was back in the day when the most uttered phrase nationwide on Monday nights was, "Shut up, Howard".

Actually, I would disagree with this. Sooo many bad NFL men in the booth right now it's ridiculous. I agree with the Theismann dumbass part, just that he;s far from the only one. I love the NFL compared to the NBA, but there is no comparison in the booth right now, the NBA has great men in the booth virtually every game.

Theismann's biggest fan was none other than himself. I just always got the impression that he thought he was the ultimate authority on everything. He is the kindof guy who would make up some lame excuses or get offended if someone disagreed with him or corrected him on something. He was annoying... Good Riddance.

It sounds like all you young whippersnappers don't remember when MNF was a real circus, with Howard Cosell and Dandy Don in the booth.

One year the Cowboys are playing the Browns, and a long pass to Drew Pearson was incomplete along the sidelines. The camera zooms in on Pearson kneeling along the sidelines, when he suddenly blows his pre-game meal.

There's a second or two of silence, then Dandy Don says "We don't need a replay on that"
