Either way, I like that Sears projection in Round 2...especially if Thomas is gone in Round 1.

I wouldn't be happy.

You HAVE to take CJ and FORCE Tampa's hand.

Then, you get AP and another draft choice.

If Tampa don't wanna play (and pay), fuck em and talk to Minny, then Atl, etc.

Very worse case scenario??

You end up with the best player in the draft in Calvin.

Ain't nothing wrong with that!

nice post yogi, i agree 100% (or you can trade the pick before the draft). AP is not special except that he is the best RB in a bad RB draft.
Coming from a Wolverine, we're the football equivalent of a formerly abused wife of a meth addict who just remarried the safe nice guy. We're just glad we have someone who's aware that it's a rivalry and that tackling on defense is integral. Baby steps.

furls, I'm not saying that. I think AP is a special RB. I also think Quinn can be a special QB.

What I'm saying is, I'd rather have Quinn + high 2nd round pick then AP alone as surely as I'd rather have AP + high 2nd pick then Quinn alone!

I'm talking getting the best bang for our #3 overall pick.

Yogi, I like the way you are thinking (in general terms).

My preference would be getting Joe Thomas in round 1 and the Gonzo in Round 2 but your plan of taking CJ covers the alternatives. Good post.

Yogi-

Its not productive to drink in front of your computer at this time of day. If you were drinking and playing Madden 07 on the other hand...

Seriously, in relation to your theory, what if we are "stuck" with Calvin? We have too many major holes to be taking a WR with the 3rd pick! Will Calvin block on the line? Can he stop the run? Can he run the football? Is he right now better than Frye/Anderson (like St. Brady)?

No, no, no, and no. That "bluff" could prove scuicidal on some levels to the development of this franchise.

I'd be happy to be stuck with the best player in the draft.

I'm somewhat a gambling man, (not like swerb, though!) but I don't see the big gamble. Someone WILL want Calvin. And will pony up at least a 2nd round choice.

But all good plans should have a worst case scenario, and mine is being "stuck" with Calvin. Well, I can think of worse situations.

Calvin will help to improve the running game by making the D pay attention to him along with BE and KW2 every play. We just need to find a QB whose best pass is an alley-oop!

If we score more, he'll help the D running game by......aww shoot, please don't make me knock down all those dominos!

You get the idea!

Bottom line is by having 2 premium WRs we'll have to adjust by not having either... a premo RB or QB or DE or DB. Our money situation will be a little differnt than most teams, so we have Big Big $ on WRs. Well we compensate by not spending Big $ on RBs. O r something else.

These two trades (Thomas Jones and Willis McGahee) should show everyone the value of taking a running back high in the draft. You can drop 10 spots in the second round and add a 1200+ yard rusher. You can give up 2 3rds and a 7th and get a 1200+ yard rusher.

Name me a top 15 QB that could be had for those prices.
Name me a top 15 LT that could be had for those prices.
Name me a top 15 WR that could be had for those prices.

Running backs are results of systems, and there are plenty out there, every year. To spend the 3rd pick of the draft on one seems like fool's gold to me at this point.
