Your Dream draft:

Unread postby furls » Sun Feb 18, 2007 1:33 pm

put your first three rounds here:

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

my dream draft:

1st Round: Joe Thomas LT
2nd Round: Tony Hunt RB
3rd Round: Justin Blalock G

I would not be disappointed with:

1st Round: A-Pete RB
2nd Round: Joe Staley LT/Levi Brown LT
3rd Round: Troy Smith QB

or

1st Round: Joe Thomas
2nd Round: Drew Stanton
3rd Round: Justin Blalock or Tim Crowder DE, Texas (big enough to play 3-4)

Man, I like your first one alot Furls.

ASSUMING the team addresses QB before the draft ...

RB Adrian Peterson, Oklahoma
LT Aaron Sears, Tennessee
DE/DT Brandon Mebane, Cal

Bottom line, these three picks better all be RB, OL, DL

well, first it means shoring up some areas in FA.
We need a couple of big bodies on either side of the ball. I'd be fine with either L.Davis or E. Steinbach and Robaire Smith and/or Vonnie Holliday on the DL.
Another good vet corner like Nick Harper or David Macklin.

Then I'd like the draft to work out like this:

Trade down with Minny and get their 2nd round #41 overall. Minny Takes Calvin Johnson.

1st round #7 overall: A. Peterson or Brady Quinn (1 will be there)

2nd round #35 overall : Joe Staley or A. Sears OT or J. Blalock OG

2nd round #41 overall: J. Harrell or Q. Pittock DT

3rd round #67 overall : B. Leonard RB or T.Smith QB pending 1st round pick.

I was trying to avoid all the possible permutations from various trades that the Browns could do. Let's stick to the picks the got, not the ones they could get.

1 - Peterson
2 - Best available OL
3 - Best available OL
4 - Best available OL

Only now do I start thinking about DL.

OL - Get 'er done.

Thing I keep reading, though, is Phil is hawkin' DL .

Basically, the best OL available in whether he's a G or T in Round 2...

1. Adrian Peterson RB Oklahoma
2. Ben Grubbs G Auburn
3. OL/DL/CB...Too many needs for you Troy Smith!

I kept a close on eye on Sears in the last two Tennessee games I watched, and was impressed. Allegedly, he projects to be able play OG at the next level as well.

The more I read on Grubbs though, the more I like him. He's slipped into the bottom of the 1st rd of alot of mocks.

I agree with you. Guard may be an even bigger need than Tackle. :eek  Either way, I think round two has to be the best OL.

I just can't see them passing on A-Pete.

The more I think about it, the more I see the Lions taking him.

Quinn to the Raiders #1 (you heard it here first), Peterson #2 to the Lions, C.Johnson #3 to TB if they win the flip.

Which leaves us a choice between JaMarcus, Joe Thomas, or whoever they view as the top DL on the board.

You are giving Matt Millen to much credit, none chance he's smart enough to take AP. Brady Quinn would litterally get eaten in Oak-town. But if that happens, the Browns would prolly try to trade down.

So umm...Phil Savage said today that Bently's career could potentially be finished while (if necessary) a 3rd surgery ends his 2007 season. Time to update my prior top 3...

1. AP (if Thomas is gone)
2. Ryan Kalil C USC (if still there...if not back to Grubbs or Sears)
3. Hopefully I'm drunk by this pick.

I love your second set there pup, not one single "impact player" but three guys that would make an immediate impact. I think Datish could be had later, say 4th round or maybe even 5, but I love what you are getting at...

I would say go one further!

1. Joe Thomas
2. Ben Grubbs/Aaron Sears
3. Manuel Ramirez or Justin Blalock

and the Browns would be set on the O-line for a decade.

I was out looking around and say that Datish was kind of unimpressive at the Senior Bowl, so maybe he will slide even further. I just don't have the desire to go out and rate the top 5 guards/tackles/centers in the draft, Datish was in my head (they discussed him on KNR with ourlads today) and knew he would get the point acrossed.

and the Browns would be set on the O-line for a decade.

Well, we can't have that now can we?

Add Steinbach in FA and take Michael Bush in Rd 2 if Baltimore does not draft him.

Then all that's missing is a QB.

Here's a question that needs to be asked:

Is Joe Thomas Chris Samuels or Orlando Pace, a true cornerstone offensive tackle, or is he Robert Gallery, the best of a weak class who is becoming overrated simply through relativity?

The Browns don't need a fat, slow guy who gives Julius Peppers an ass-grab as he's on his way to cheese-grating Charlie Frye's head into the ground.

We already have like 20 of those guys. Come to think of it, one of the Browns' alternate logos should be an aging, overweight offensive lineman with two knee braces sucking on an oxygen mask as Charlie Frye gets ganbanged in the background.

At the risk of sounding like Butch Davis, we need ATHLETES on this team. Guys who will play their guts out...

So is Adrian Peterson LT or (Insert bad Bengal draft pick here)

Is Brady Quinn Joe Montana or Rick Mirer

Is Jemarcus Russel, well you get the point.

You can play that game with any player, any position, any year and is a waste of time.

One thing Joe Thomas (the former tight end/defensive end for Wisconsin) is not is slow for the position. Is he a little soft? That seems to be the knock on him if there is one, so that is up to Phil to decide. If Thomas works out at the combine and is unimpressive to where Phil does not think he is going to be a VERY GOOD LT (he does not have to be Pace), then go in another direction, but he better be right.

Well, it is time to update this given the combine and FA signings and rumored trades/interest.

Here is my new dream:

1st Round Trade to 8-10 for a 2nd and 3rd or 4th: Okoye
2nd Round (36): Joe Staley (hopefully available)
2nd Round (acquired): OG (Sears, Blalock, Ramirez )
3rd Round: CB (Irons, Davis, Bennett)

All of a sudden, a team that was looking very old is now looking a lot younger upfront on both lines.

Right now, the only two players that I think are just too good to be true are Okoye and Johnson. Unfortunately, the only way the Browns can draft Calvin Johnson is if they can get Matt Millen to come and be the GM. The upside on Okoye is insane, hell the kid will turn 20 during camp, and he has already graduated. High Motor, hard worker, young and still growing.

I am not crazy about drafting AP and would therefore rather trade the pick, because I really like next year's class of running backs better (Slaton, McFadden, Rice, etc.). I would also shy away from spending an early pick on a QB because I would like to give Charlie Frye the chance to continue to fail behind a better O-line, and besides all a top 10 pick QB assures us of this year is a QB contraversy in October.

Sign CB Rod Hood.

Trade down to #8, picking up Carr and Houstons #2

#8 Branch/Okoye
#36 Sears
#39 Grubbs
#67 Hunt, M.Bush, C.Henry, Pittman (one will be there)

looks like we have the same draft Swerb, but you are going on the idea that Steinbach moves to LT. If he does, your draft looks great by me. I would guess that one of those 2 guards would start next year, while the other would probably end up providing much needed depth. I like the RB in the 3rd too.

Well, thats one of the things I like about Sears ... he's the one guy in this draft I think you could play at OT or OG. You add him, with Steinbach here now, you can do some different things.
