Elway might not have had Kosar's ability to dissect a defense on the fly, at least at that point. But he had one thing Kosar didn't: He had a competitive streak that bordered on vicious.

Kosar did what needed to be done. The D let us all down that day.
The next year Kosar was disecting Denver's D and was leading us all to the Superbowl. Byner's ill timed fumble and Webster's not running his route cost us and robbed Kosar.
Kosar's will to win was every bit as strong as Elways.
