Private Winslow is a Buc, I can't wait to find out what we got for him. Too bad Florio's site is toast.

This dude had the scoop an hour before anyone else:

I like the trade. Winslow had the most value and was the most expendable, imo.

I seriously doubt it is for the Bucs' first rounder. Probably a lower pick this year and a conditional pick next year that could go up the 2nd round if Winslow puts up great numbers.

That closes the book on the Butch Davis/Pete Garcia talent pool with the exception of our Pro Bowl snapper with Jones not expected back either.

1999-2004 only a freakin' long snapper to show for our draft picks

BROWNS TRADE WINSLOW FOR UNDISCLOSED DRAFT PICKS

The Cleveland Browns announced today that the team has traded tight end Kellen Winslow to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers for undisclosed draft picks.

“The Cleveland Browns thank Kellen for his contributions to this organization over the past five years,” said Browns General Manager George Kokinis. “We appreciate his passion for the game and wish him success in Tampa Bay. The draft picks we have obtained through this deal will give us greater flexibility as we look to infuse more talent and create competition and depth on this football team.”

The Browns selected Winslow with the sixth overall pick in the 2004 NFL Draft. In his five years in Cleveland, he played in 44 games, recording 219 receptions for 2,459 yards and 11 touchdowns. In 2006, he caught 89 passes for 875 yards and 3 touchdowns, and in 2007 he went to the Pro Bowl after catching 82 passes for 1,106 yards and 5 touchdowns. He played in 10 games in 2008, catching 43 passes for 428 yards and 3 touchdowns.

Not to be rude, but why? What has Winslow done to be worth someone else's mid-first-rounder? He has talent, but he's injury-prone and a turkey. I think he might have been more valuable to Cleveland than to another team. I'm willing to be talked into it, but I certainly wouldn't be up in arms if this isn't a first-rounder.

As someone else pointed out, if anything, it's probably conditional.

And the Browns no longer inspire "all hell breaking loose." We are a beaten fan base.

Yeah, I was thinking a 2nd and a conditional 3-5th myself. I just don't see how you guys expect to get a first rounder, regardless of how low it is, for Private Winslow and his duct taped knee.

I'm glad I didn't buy that jersey when I had the chance. There goes K2 from the list of people to replace BK on the banner up top.

Its the price for a top 5 TE, that is why. Shockey fetched a 2nd and 5th. I wouldnt trade Winslow for Shockey. Therefore I value Winslow more than Shockey he should fetch more

+1.

There's the problem with this franchise.

Come on you dont remember the plan, Winslow and Rucker to spread the field. Best recieving TE in the league. So what if he had a big head, he's the only one that deserved it. The guy was a warrior.

And i spoke to soon on the first round thing. I bet its a second and a fifth or along those lines

I'm thinking the Shockey trade set the criteria.

I bet this years 2nd and a conditional 2010 2nd, 3rd or 4th based on games started. Talent isnt the question. Health is.

If they got a second and fifth for KW2, that would be tremendous. I think it's a great move.

Love it. This shows the change in philosophy in the new front office that they aren't going to put up with any bullshit.

I've always thought Heiden was a better player for the position anyway.

Reasonable. But I don't remember any TEs traded for first-round picks, help me out here.

More to the point, the top five TEs in terms of receiving yards are Gonzalez, Witten, Daniels, Cooley, and Dallas Clark. Winslow doesn't block particularly well. What makes him a Top 5 TE?

Winslow is barely a TE, and he and Shockey are actually very comparable.

I wouldn't give a first for him.

I, like all of you would like to get one, but he's not worth a one right now, he's just not.

Keep in mind that this could be a precursor to a free agent signing, preferably on defense.

It's not about numbers with winslow, its about lineing up outside the tackle and making a safety stay inside for the fear that if a ball is anywhere close to him hes going to catch it.

He's a GRINDER ya i said it and a warrior, the guy simply catches everything

Im dissapointed and glad at the same time, because i hated his attitude off the field but loved it on

If it's a second this year and conditional next year, I don't have any problem with this move. K2 is talented, we all know, but I was getting tired of the constant soap opera. Plus I don't think he has more than two or three good years left, given the condition of his knees, and his constant nagging injuries. With Heiden and Rucker the Browns will be OK.

Actually Shockey is known to be a very good blocking TE. His problem was his mouth, his attitude, his immaturity and his knack of dropping TD passes.

You're right there hasnt been a TE traded for a number 1, but value wise if we take a 2nd and 5th that is worse than what the Giants got because I believe the Saints had the 9th pick last year and TB has the 19th... if it is a 2nd and 4th Im ok. I honestly think Winslow is worth more than Shockey.

You may also be right that he isnt a top 5 but he is elite is he not?

He is a Top 5 TE because he, his daddy and his agent say so ?

You guys are really getting your hopes up if you think it's a 2nd/5th. It might be a 2nd and a conditional 2010 pick. It also might be a 3rd and a conditional 2010 pick.

I doubt they traded him for less than a 3rd.

Keep in mind that the Bucs will have to give him a new contract.

Maybe the best thing about all this. Honestly in 2 years Winslow will be lucky to be remotely effective. His knees are in terrible shape.

With the Rogers deal and everything else, I'm on record of going full-blown rebuild this year and aiming for 2010. Then again with the impending lockout, I'm not sure long-term makes any sense either.
Playing here is the closest thing to heaven. Really, I mean it's amazing to be in a place where the fans truly cherish their football team and stick behind them win or lose. No he is an elite (I say top 5) because of his performance in 2006 where he lead the league in receptions by TE's and in 2007 when he had a top 3 year. Just because he got staph last year from the Browns effed up facility and had to deal with 2 Qb's and our offensive clusterflip doesnt take away from that fact that he is still elite. At least for a few more years.

Especially when you consider all the UFA's the Inbred are going to have after '09 and the Ratbirds loss of Scott and now probably Lewis who is saying he's now not coming back. That may be the year we make our move up the division latter.
